Rome – Ebola: Protocol on the control of the virus ready from the region
Lazio Region President Nicola Zingaretti, announced that the protocol containing directions for surveillance and control of the Ebola virus outbreak, has been sent to all facilities of the Regional Health Service. The protocol is divided into four parts essential: the first deals with the evaluation of probable and/or confirmed suspected cases (S/P/C) by defining the organizational criteria and the referral network for taking charge of the patient, the procedures for hospitalization, transport and any laboratory aspects The second part deals more specifically with the modalities of disinfection and sanitization, treatment and disposal of medical waste, surveillance of persons identified as “contacts”. The third and fourth parts also deal with the management of exposed health workers, as well as some communication provisions.
The protocol sent has already been published on the Lazio Region website. Spallanzani (national and regional reference center) and Ares 118 have also proceeded to publish, on their institutional website, their protocol for the management of suspected, probable, confirmed and contact cases.
“We are working following the directions of the Ministry of Health to facilitate the management of any suspected, probable, confirmed cases, as well as contacts – Zingaretti explains – The protocol was drafted for health professionals working for Lazio health care in order to protect the right to patient care and at the same time allow them to work in the best conditions of safety while protecting the health of citizens”.
