Monterotondo – SS Gonfalone, hospital is saved, renovated and upgraded

Now it’s official: SS Gonfalone is saved. Not only. Thanks to substantial funding, mainly regional, the eretino nosocomio will be restructured in a short time and equipped with a new department.

The overall three million euros coming in (2.1 from the region, 900 thousand from the Asl Rm/G) will in fact serve to adapt and upgrade the structure starting with the Emergency Room, and to implement the Psychiatric diagnostic and treatment service.

Included in the health plan launched by the Zingaretti Junta in view of the Extraordinary jubilee announced by Pope Francis (Dec. 8, 2015 – Nov. 30, 2016), the SS Gonfalone, only hospital in the province, is in fact among the twelve health facilities in the regional emergency network recipients of funding for structural upgrades, which together with funds earmarked for the renewal of the ambulance fleet, the expansion of the helicopter ambulance and the extension of exemptions to the release of staff turnover, bring the regional commitment to a total of 88 million euros.

Very short timeframe for interventions: structural adjustment to be carried out by the beginning of the Jubilee. The wards of surgery, orthopedics e gynecology and planned to open operating rooms also on Saturdays. The only uncertainty concerns the birth point, service that by not reaching the number of annual deliveries set by ministerial parameters would be close (end of June) to the cessation of activities.

Thus, an affair that began in September 2010, when rumors began to leak out that SS Gonfalone would be included in the list of “non-productive” regional nosocomas and therefore, pursuant to Decree 80 of the Junta presided over by Renata Polverini, destined for downgrading and reconversion. This was followed by years of hard struggle, demonstrations, sit-ins against the strategies envisaged by Decree 80, meetings and hearings at the Region and the general management of the Asl. Then, from 2013, of close and punctual discussion with regional institutions and health leaders, until the 2013/15 Health Operational Plan with which the Zingaretti Council, last August, saved SS Gonfalone from being downgraded.

The inclusion of the Monterotondo hospital among the Roman facilities to be strengthened in view of the Jubilee represents, today, the definitive recognition of the reasons punctually and strenuously represented in every forum by the Monterotondo municipal administration, doctors, nurses and trade unions of the hospital, which today can express deep satisfaction in announcing to the city and the territory this decisive turning point for the future of SS Gonfalone.

After the first few years of hard struggle against Polverini’s infamous Decree 80, which unexpectedly condemned SS Gonfalone to closure, and of close, constructive confrontation with the Zingaretti administration, today we can finally announce that our hospital is not only safe but will soon become better, finally bringing to a close in the best way possible an intense mobilization that deeply involved the institutions and the entire city and of which we can, therefore, all be justifiably proud and satisfied“.

“SS Gonfalone’s operations will finally be able to return to levels commensurate with its importance and strategic importance – says the councilman delegate for health care Walter Antonini – while fighting to prevent its downgrading we have in fact always and simultaneously worked for better facilities and equipment. It is no accident, therefore, that today we can welcome the provision of new equipment that greatly improves hospital efficiency. I am referring to the new CT multislides equipment, which allows for more accurate examinations in less time, and the luminance amplifier for the orthopedic department.

We have also recently agreed with the general management of the Asl, on our precise suggestions, to locate the radiology service on the ground floor, so as to recover space useful to accommodate the new service“.
